The department offers patients cutting-edge clinical care, giving undergraduate and postgraduate students the best practical education possible.

OVERVIEW OF THE DEPARTMENT:

GOALS:

OBJECTIVES:

  • To educate undergraduates and postgraduate students and scholars who excel in a complex, multicultural and technologically changing world.
  • To discover and translate new knowledge at the boundaries of science, transforming orthodontic practice, social systems and related technologies for the benefit of individuals, families and communities.
  • To provide orthodontic awareness and oral health education & clinical services of the highest quality with an emphasis on enhancing health equity and social justice for individuals and communities.
  • To prepare students into healthcare professionals in addressing the challenges of access to care affecting underserved populations.
  • To collaborate with our urban and rural community partners in mutually beneficial ways.
  • To advocate for public policies, perceptions, and practices that lead to inclusion of orthodontics as an integral part of the inter-professional emphasis on the health of the communities we serve.

HIGHLIGHTS

KEY FEATURES

Under the highest ethical standards, an evidence-based approach to diagnosis and treatment planning is emphasized throughout the undergraduate training program, which consists of didactic, practical, and clinical components.

The postgraduates treat various orthodontic cases using fixed orthodontic appliances such as straight wire appliances [ceramic brackets, self-ligating brackets, ceramics self-ligating brackets] Begg appliance, lingual orthodontics, aligners, cleft lip and palate treatment.

The Department provides orthodontic and orthognathic surgery for patients with skeletal malocclusion and craniofacial deformities in collaboration with the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Additionally, the department collaborates with other departments to offer patients complete dental rehabilitation.

Thrust Areas

The department’s focus areas are academic and clinical.  The department’s current areas of focus include self-ligating brackets, temporary anchorage devices, clear aligner therapy, and cleft lip & palate rehabilitation. Research in the field of genetics is also one of the thrust areas.

  • The Department has state-of-the-art facilities, including distinct clinics for undergraduate and graduate students and a Wi-Fi enabled environment. With 27 electronically powered dental chairs, these clinics provide patients with the optimal comfort and convenience.
  • Individualized UG/PG clinics providing comfortable patient and doctor friendly environment.
  • Well equiped photography room with diffusers, filters and reflectors.
