Our belief goes with these saying. Oral Medicine and Radiology as a speciality is concerned with the diagnosis and management of diseases and disorders involving the mouth and jaws with the help of clinical acumen along with Radiographic support where necessary, to aid in the diagnosis of any specific disease. We nurture the young minds here to treat our patients with empathy and train them with the clinical skills towards a holistic treatment approach of the patient.

The Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology at Madha Dental college and Hospital provides a learning environment with tranquillity and experienced staffs to guide the students towards the path of eminence with the help of the beneficial knowledge provided to them where they have been made to reason with the freedom to ask the questions of ‘what, why and how’ enabling them to help evolve their analytical thought process.

GOALS:

Nurture the young minds here to treat our patients with empathy and train them with the clinical skills towards a holistic treatment approach of the patient also ethical handling of patients ensuring the obligation towards them are fulfilled in a timely manner.

FACILITIES

  • We have sophistication for Digital Intra-oral (Radiovisiography) & Extraoral Radiography (Orthopantamogram).
  • We have comprehensive UG & PG clinic equipped for biopsy procedures.
  • Our PG clinic is equipped with Non-invasive therapy for TMJ disorders.
  • Our PG clinic is furnished with facilities for the management of Pre-Malignant Disorders and Orofacial Pain.

BIOPSY

Biopsy is used for diagnosing the diseases of oral and maxillofacial region and is carried out in the department of oral medicine. There are two types of biopsies such as excisional and incisional biopsy and it depends on the type and size of the lesion. Excisional biopsy is the complete excision of the lesion and is indicated for lesions like traumatic fibroma, mucocele, pyogenic granuloma, etc., Incisional biopsy is removing a small portion of the lesion along with the normal tissue and is indicated for various lesions like leukoplakia, lichen planus, oral submucous fibrosis, etc., prior to the commencement of therapy.

  • Every year we conduct Oral Cancer Awareness rally and Blood Donation Camp.
  • Research Methodology and Soft skill development Workshops have been conducted every year by our department.
  • Patient orientation programs conducted in lieu of “No Tobacco Day”.
  • Poster and Paper presentations in commemoration of World Radiology Day.
  • Drug abuse awareness program conducted in collaboration with Kundrathur Police officials in the year 2023.
  • We regularly conduct Clinical Society meetings to help augment the knowledge of Oral Medicine and Radiology amongst our fraternity.

Dr. T. Sarumathi, B.D.S., M.D.S

Head of the Department

Our Head of the Department Dr. T. Sarumathi, B.D.S., M.D.S., M.Sc., (Epidemiology) PhD., is an acclaimed academician who is well known for her clinical and research-oriented legacy. She had her undergraduate, M.Sc and post graduate degrees from the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University and her Ph.D. from Bharath Institute of higher Education and Research. In her 17 years of academic and research experience she has over 52 publications to her name and had attended over 45 CDE programs and conferences. She has over 18 paper presentations including guest lectures. She had served as the Head and in charge for the Department of Epidemiology during her tenure in her previous academic institution.

Dr. M. Kavitha M.D.S

Professor

Our Professor Dr. M. Kavitha M.D.S., had completed her post-graduation from the Government Dental college & Research Institute, Karnataka and has 20 publications to her name at various National and International Journals. She has presented several scientific papers in National conferences and had delivered guest lectures and had secured best paper award in the conference held at Chandigarh in the year 2012. She also had been the Scientific Chairperson for poster & paper presentation in conferences and is also one of the scientific co-ordinators of CDE programs held at the Intra and Inter college level. Her academic interest is oriented towards salivary gland imaging and Radiographic differential diagnosis.

Dr. B. Niveditha M.D.S

Reader

Our Reader Dr. B. Niveditha M.D.S., had completed her post-graduation under the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R Medical University and has around 20 publications in her name in various National and International Journals. She has authored two book chapters in the topics of “Diseases of Blood” and “Current updates of Migraine”. Her legacy includes being a reviewer for various indexed journals and an academic Editor in a Dental Journal. Had delivered Guest lectures in various Dental colleges in the Undergraduate level. Her area of interest in the speciality includes Orofacial pain, Oral Cancer and Physics of Radiation.

Dr. V. Suvetha M.D.S

Senior Lecturer

Our Senior Lecturer Dr. V. Suvetha M.D.S., had completed her post-graduation from Meenakshi Ammal Dental College and Hospital and has around four publications in her name in the National and International Journals and her area of interest includes Oral Cancer. Her interest in teaching has made her a dedicated academician for more than an year in our Institute and has presented many papers in National conferences.

Our Senior Lecturer Dr. D. Pavithra M.D.S., had completed her post-graduation from Vivekananda Dental College for Women and has publications in National Journals and has many paper presentations done in National conferences. Her area of interest includes Oral Potentially Malignant Disorders.

Dr. A. I. Samu Fathima M.D.S

Our Senior lecturer Dr. A. I. Samu Fathima M.D.S., had completed her post-graduation from the Tamil Nadu Government Dental College and Hospital has three publications in her name as the first author and had presented paper on CBCT in the 32nd IAOMR National conference. Her area of interest is the early non-surgical intervention of Oral Potentially Malignant Disorders and Head & Neck Radiology and wishes to enhance her knowledge on the same in the future.
